Pete will not use his mobile phone during lessons

He is prevented by law from using his phone whilst the vehicle is moving as he is the one deemed to be in charge of the vehicle whilst you are driving

He will have the phone on silent to see if any calls that come through are urgent

If an urgent call comes through Pete will ask you to pull over and turn the engine off in order to respond to the call

Pete likes it when you too turn off your phone so that you will not get distracted by any call you might receive. If you are expecting urgent news it can be left on by agreement
